When you think big eastern cities, probably the last thing to come to mind is green. The image we have of big American cities is dirty, crowded, busy, and frankly hazy. Indianapolis thrives on the visits of millions of individuals every year, and they want them to keep coming back.

That means keeping the city clean, and that in turn means keeping the city green. It is a city wide effort, encouraged by the municipal government and put into practical application by the knowledge which the local student population has thanks to the many universities in the area. Test weights and other research materials are constantly being used to see which products can be of greatest environmental benefit.

A city can only do so much, of course, and individuals have to do their part to make sure that a vision becomes reality. The citizens of Indianapolis have bought into this vision wholesale. Many have an instantaneous water heater in their homes, and a recent conference on green roofs in Indianapolis saw the best attendance of any location. Clearly, those living in an zip code in Indianapolis will enjoy cleaner living for years to come.
